A link shows an item in a second place. The link and the item it points to (the original) are the same item seen twice: the title, the description, the attachments and the sub-items all belong to the original. Change any of them through the link and the original changes too, and the other way round.

Use a link when one thing belongs in more than one place: a task that is on a project board and on this week's list, or a shopping list that two boards need.

A link is marked with a link badge.

  1. Copy the item you want to link to.
  2. Go to where the link should appear and choose Paste Link. Paste Link Here puts it next to the item you chose; Paste Link Inside puts it inside it. Each has an at Top and at Bottom version.

When you drag an item, you can also release it on the Link part of the place you drop it, to leave a link there instead of moving the item.

Go to OriginalOpens the original where it lives
Cut LinkPicks up the link itself, so pasting moves the link and the original stays where it is
Cut OriginalPicks up the original, so pasting moves the original
Copy OriginalCopies the original, so pasting makes a new, separate item

Adding a sub-item through a link adds it to the original, so it shows in every place the original appears. Copying a link and pasting it gives you another link to the same original.

Ticking and deleting

When you tick a link as done, InfiniKan asks what to mark:

  • This link and the original: both are marked done, each following its own Done settings.
  • The original, and remove this link: the original is marked done where it is, and this link is deleted.

When you delete an item that other items link to, you can delete the links only and keep the item, or delete everything.

InfiniKan won't let you put a link where it would end up inside itself, for example a link to a board pasted into one of that board's own cards. You will see a message instead, and nothing changes.
